Our Mission

Mum-Ford Inc. has provided visual health care including preventive eye care, prescription glasses, repairs to frames, and lens and replacement of frames and lens since 1982 for patients who live in Cleveland, Euclid, Lakewood and other sounding suburbs.

The majority of our patients have:

  • No income.

  • Fixed incomes.

  • Been diagnosed with behavioral health issues, bi-polar disorders, and/or depression.

  • Been diagnosed with medical health issues including HIV, diabetes, etc.

In addition, many Mum-Ford Inc. patients are:

  • Homeless.

  • In the process of re-entry.

  • Chemically dependent.

Lack of insurance and/or income prevents all of these patients from properly addressing their visual health care needs. Mum-Ford Inc. helps fill the gap by providing the eye care and prescription eyewear these patients and their families need.

Outcomes

In 2016-2017, 326 patients were served, with 225 referred from area hospitals and collaboration sources. Ninety-eight patients returned who had participated in the 2015-2016 program, and 79 patients returned with insurance that paid for their glasses.

Mum-Ford Inc. has implemented a program of preventive visual health care service for these patients since 1985, which has been funded by Community Development Block Grants. Each year, additional funding is requested to help continue to provide onsite eye examinations, enabling patients to receive proper visual health care service in one location.

For example, during this past year we helped a pair of siblings complete their school year with glasses we provided. Their original glasses had become damaged beyond repair and their insurance would not pay for another pair. These students needed their prescription glasses to perform well academically.

Project “Eye Care for You” Goals and Objectives

The targeted goal of Mum-Ford Inc.’s “Eye Care for You” project is to increase patient’s utilization of visual health care resources specifically to help prevent and/or correct visual health issues.
